Swipe for Women Create Wednesday inspiration ➡️ "Creativity is looking at whatever your parameters might be, circling them, studying them, poking at them, stretching them, turning them inside out and right side back in an endless game of configuration. Creativity is seeing everything as pliable. It’s the opposite of complacency. It’s curiosity with a 'what if we try...'." - Lisa Nading Don't miss our conversation with Lisa Nading of @coclicony. Diana Chao is a multi-disciplinary artist & activist passionate about destigmatizing mental health. Read her inspiration for this piece she’s created in honor of #WorldMentalHealthDay: "There's a Chinese proverb that goes "世间好物不坚牢，彩云易散琉璃脆", loosely translated as "Clouds easily scatter, and glass easily shatter." This piece draws upon the intersection of my Chinese heritage and my years of struggle with bipolar disorder. Like the proverb, the colors in this image reflect the psychedelic vibrancy I sought to exude. But the elegance is staged. Quickly, it fades into inkwash, with my own hands grabbing onto the pieces of myself too blurred in reflection to hold. In the end, it's a glimpse into what bipolar disorder made me believe: that the weight of sorrow drags down all the beauty we try to create. That, as Robert Frost says: "nothing gold can stay."" "To me, creativity is critical to the formulation of a human connection. It helps us navigate nonlinear spaces where answers and emotions may be otherwise far too complex; it is fundamentally human." -@moonglassstudios Head to our Stories for more from Diana.
When Mona Chalabi came to the United States to start a new job, she felt trapped on a team that wasn't right for her. She followed her passion - and creative instincts - into a new illustrative career. "You can fight and fight and fight to be seen. Or you can walk away and try something else... Jobs are like relationships, the hard part is working out how long to fight for them." - @monachalabi for @99u Hear more from illustrator and journalist Mona Chalabi in our WCW Story Highlight as we celebrate Women Create Wednesday. 📸: Brittany Washington
"Everyone has to start somewhere. So keep making work, refine your craft, and don’t be afraid to put your unique voice out into the world. Also, support your fellow women and lift each other up. There’s enough negativity out there as it is. Surround yourself with people who value community over competition." - @jackieriveraaa This Women Create Wednesday, we're featuring California-based lettering artist @jackieriveraaa. 🤩 Head to our WCW story highlight for more from Jackie.
Stop-motion with a personal touch. ✨ @leamotion shares what inspired her to make this 📹: “@caseyneistat and @garyvee are my everyday inspiration. Casey is someone that I have been watching for years — I love his filmmaking style and the fact that he always pushes the limits. Gary is the social media guru, whose advice I love listening to. That’s why I created this video with Casey’s merch and Gary’s book, simply to thank them for what they’ve taught me.”
“Food transcends all aspects of life. It tells our history, it unites people, it’s used to celebrate and grieve—and everyone has to eat. The medium has allowed me to experience all of these things, whether I’m in a studio collaborating with trained chefs and stylists for commercial and editorial work, or in a tiny thatched home in the Belizean jungle documenting tortilla making.” Photographer @viedfinder shares how 🍛 🍔 🌮 🍝 allows her to connect with others and learn about their cultural identity.
